STEALTHFIRE SHIELD or as the box says...

Marvel Captain America The Winter Soldier Super Soldier Gear Stealth Fire Shield

I found a Captain America Stealth Fire Shield in the clearance aisle marked down to $15. I knew that this gimmick blaster got overall poor reviews and for only five bucks off the original price I decided to pass. Three days later the shield was still there but it had been marked down again to $9 so I picked it up.

I think it is important to remember that this is technically a Marvel Captain America Super Soldier Gear product from the makers of NERF aka Hasbro, not really a traditional NERF blaster. At only about 10"(25cm) in diameter it doesn't really make an effective shield either
size comparison with Strong Arm.
.

What this version of Cap's shield lacks in performance and range it makes up for with tacti-cool, clever, fun-ctionality.

At the rear of the shield is the handle which deploys the 4 barrels from the center of the sheild. Directly above that is a door that flips up to load the darts. Pulling the handle/trigger fires each of the 4 darts separately. A 5th pull of the trigger retracts the barrels.

As far as ranges go it says "Fires up to 20 feet!" on the box.
It says "Fires up to 20 feet!" I found an average of about 16 feet.

If you are lucky a 20 foot shot is the max you might get out of it. The Stealth Shield also comes with 4 red tip, blue foam streamline style darts that don't seem to be as sturdy as elite darts.
The handle size and adjustable arm strap are surprisingly big and adult friendly.

I like the idea of using shields in Nerf and the Stealth Fire is something a little novel and fun.You wouldn't want to use it in a battle. I don't think there is much modding potential either? It does make me think of what could have been or what could be ...? Perhaps this will be a great collectors item some day? I hope so because there is one in my collection now.

N-STRIKE MODULUS ECS-10

...and those accessories that are coming too.

So you must have heard that NERF will be bringing us The N-STRIKE MODULUS ECS-10 sometime this fall.  Actually they won't be bringing it to us, we will have to go and get it and remember to bring at least $50 (or more?)  to pay for it. The Modulus will apparently be a flywheel powered blaster and feature a 10 dart banana clip, barrel extension, stock, scope, and have a total of 6 tactical rails. But wait..., also available are upgrade kit$! We can buy extra $tuff like a Flip Clip Kit and $tealth Ops,  Long Range, and $trike N Defend upgrade kits to configure the Modulus in over 30 ways.

Now this is N-Strike, so we all know how barrel extensions and stocks and clips work. It is why N-Strike and Elite are my favorite blaster series. I love to mix and match parts. But the Modulus has a whole new white, grey and green color  scheme so those old yellow and blue barrel extensions and stocks won't look so good unless we paint them. Then will we be able to configure our Modulus even more ways? I wonder if we will get anything really new out this at all or if it will all be recolored stuff we already have and a re-shelled blaster to base it on?

If that is the case then maybe just buying the up-grade kits and painting them to match older blasters would be a way to go? Is this finally a way to get more accessories? I've heard of a new red dot sight that might be nice to have? Looks like a bunch of other stuff too! Like some of you, I have picked up extra parts on eBay or at a thrift store, etc... to customize other blasters. Click to see some of them on the new CC&M page.
some of my accessories. Everybody loves some Swag for thier favorite blaster.

We will soon see what the Modulus and its upgrade kits have to offer to the N-STRIKE series and the Nerf World in general. When I look at that image with all those attachments, I wonder what that package is gonna co$t?  There is an old saying, "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst."  But I do like accessories and tthere just might be some good ones.
 Then there is my saying...

N-STRIKE DOUBLE DOWN

Well...

I found a new N-Strike DOUBLE DOWN for ten bucks. It was the first one I had seen in real life and it was the only Nerf product that they had at an odd ball store that I was in by chance. I took this as a sign that I should have one, and picked up one of the four they had.  Just for the record I think this is the blaster they should have called the Double Strike.
My new DOUBLEDOWN in the box.

The DOUBLEDOWN is an N-Strike blaster not an Elite so keep in mind that it's performance and stats reflect that.  Range and velocity are about comparable to a JOLT. The color scheme is reminiscent of the White Out series. Will there be a yellow one or an Elite blue version?
Side View

It is double barreled but fires only one dart each time it is primed. Much like a 2 barreled Nite Finder.  It comes with four elite darts, six would have been nice so you could fully load it up, even though dart storage is... awkward? If only the 4 dart holder was detachable, but then the DOUBLEDOWN would need a tactical rail which it sadly lacks.
Top View (note how far the extra darts stick out)

Now for some things I like about this blaster ... the double barrel action, familiar Nite Finder/Fire Strike type priming system, overall sleek thin sidearm design. It seems to me that this blaster was a good concept that was poorly executed. I'm sorry Nerf didn't put a bit more attention in to this one.
the DOUBLEDOWN has a relatively long, thin. sleek design.

The DOUBLEDOWN might make an interesting platform for mods with it's own unique design and qualities, and regardless it is still a fun little pistol as long as you're not looking for out of the box state of the art performance.
This blaster is almost begging for modification!!!
So what do you think? Do you like it? Does this new blaster deserve a little more attention than it got from it's designers, or are you going to pass on this one?
