FLIPFURY FEVER

Recently I posted my  Target Mission Debriefing  and told you that I picked up a FLIPFURY. Since then I've had a chance to take it out of the box and play with it. Now the FLIPFURY is one big hand full of pistol so I like that, smaller (handed) NERFerS might find it a little big and front heavy. I just think it's pretty awesome. I knew it was Nerf's version of the famous and popular MAVRICK double cylinder mods,
MAVERICK Mod by  dim3

I always wanted to make one myself but now I don't need to because Hasbro made this finely designed and well crafted blaster for me. I can't wait to see some of  the mods for this... maybe a for grip and stock, two more cylinders and call it something cool like the HORRORFIRE...? The FLIPFURY comes with the basic blaster and 12 plain green Z-Strike darts that's it.

Priming and firing the FlipFury works basically the same way as the Nerf STRONGARM and
comes with12 plain green unmarked darts
MAVERICK before it, with the addition of a second trigger under the main trigger which flips the cylinders . I have heard complaints of this system but mine seems to work nice and smooth. Also like the STRONGARM the FLIPFURY has Slam fire capability and like both the STRONGARM and MAV the revolving cylinders hold 6 darts but with two cylinders comes twice the rounds, twice the fun, twice the everything!

top to bottom- STRONGARM, FLIPFURY, MAVERICK
comparison

I would've loved this blaster in an N-Strike or Elite version , get rid of that hole in the grip and the "wrapping", put a tactical rail on the bottom, maybe a barrel extension,  a little less orange?  I've got a CLEARSHOT scope on mine to give it a tacti-COOL advantage.

note the "flip" trigger below the main trigger and the detail of the grip.
I don't like the hole so much or the "bandage" wrap look.

Here is my FLIPFURY set up with a scope from a
CLEARSHOT and loaded with elite suction tip darts.
I like it!

As far as overall performance I'd have to say the FLIPFURY is at least every bit as good as the STRONGARM when it comes to distance and accuracy, more than enough especially  for indoor battles, plus you get twice the fire power and those cool flipping cylinders. I love a blaster with a good gimmick! Also keep in mind that considering the STRONARMS sitting in the store with it were only 5 bucks less... the FLIPFURY is not a bad deal ($19.99 USD).
So what we have here instead of another CS (clip system) blaster is a new REV with a new trick taken straight out of the nerf modders idea book. The Pro's are: It has 12 darts loaded. It gets decent stock ranges. It is a larger adult size baster. The Con's: That hole in the grip is really annoying. No bottom tactical rail. It is on the large side(for a pistol) and may not be a good choice for younger NERFerS, the box recommends 8 and older.  I was unsure about this one at first and it even sat around for a few days but now that I have one and got the chance to try it out, I have to say I like it, it's a lot of fun and I highly recommend it. I might even get a second one if they ever go on sale :)
So I guess I give the FLIPFURY high numbers, a bunch of gold stars, and the thumbs up.

ZOMBIE STRIKE DOOMINATOR

Crawling all over the interweb like a rotting corpse...

Nerf Zombie Strike DOOMINATOR

Today the world got it's first look at this monstrosity from Nerf and I can't help but jump on the bandwagon and show it too.  The DOOMINATOR has 4 revolving cylinders each holding 6 darts. That's 24 darts altogether! The cylinders will operate in a similar fashion as the FLIPFURY and the priming mechanism will be lever action like the SlingFire.  It should be available at most major retailors this fall for around $40 (US). Me likes what me sees and that's about it ...for now.

Edited 1/20/15 :
Now that this story has been out on the world wide net for about a day it would seem that the general consensus is that priming the blaster is done via the fore grip handle and advancing the cylinders is achieved with the lever just under the trigger.  After a second look (with less blurry vision) I'd have to agree with this assessment. Sorry, I'm just still suffering from a bit of SlingFire lever action fever!

The SlingFire... Lucas McCain's favorite blaster.

Do you remember Lucas McCain? If you do then you already know why The SlingFire would be his kind of blaster. If you don't, read on and find out why... plus I'll show you my new SlingFire!

No more Targets for Canadian NerferS.

Perhaps not as dramatic as my clever title makes it sound?

Today the retail icon Target announced that it will be closing all of its 133 stores in Canada. Target's chief executive Brian Cornell said that since operations in Canada began in 2011 the Canadian expansion has lost over $ 2 billion. Mr. Cornell said " Simply put, we were losing money every day." Among problems that were cited were differences in suppliers leading  to higher prices compared to US stores,  a bad distribution network that often resulted in empty shelves, and a failure to distinguish itself from other retail giants such as the mighty Wal-Mart, Costco, and others.

So what is this going to mean to all my fellow NERFerS north of the border? How will you get those Target exclusives like the ALPHA TROOPER, CLEARSHOT, or the HAMMERSHOT,among others? Are they available at other retailers in Canada? I guess there is always online shopping or you could simply come for a day trip to the States if you live close enough. I should note that although my HAMMERSHOT came from Target and says available only at Target on the box, a few days ago I saw a whole nerf-load of them at Wal-Mart.

as the box indicates, my HAMMERSHOT was a Target exclusive.

I personally really like Target. They have 2 stores in my area compared to the 15 Wal-marts, and one of them has the biggest, best Nerf section of any store in town including Toys R Us. I also picked up perhaps the best deal on any of my blasters there which was a ROUGH CUT 2x4 for about $5. Here in the good ol' US Target is ranked as the number 2 leading retailor right behind (can you guess?) it starts with a W and ends with a Mart, so I don't think they'll be closing up shop any time soon. I have been meaning to stop by since it's been a while anyway and hopefully I'll be heading over there  tomorrow to see what they have. So I'll let you know how that went. As for the closing of the Canadian Target stores, I'm sorry to hear about (aboot in Canook) it, but maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

Did I need one of these... no. Did I want one of these... not really.  So why did I pick one up the other day?

NERFARIUM TWENTY- FIFTEEN

 Nerfing in the New Year

                                                              2015

CROSSBOLT
I can hardly believe we are already into the second week of 2015. Some of the new NERF blasters are hitting the market such as the FLIPFURY and CROSSBOLT (one I'm particularly excited about). I'm sure we're going to see more and more available as the weeks go by, and as everybody knows there will be plenty to choose from.

FLIPFURY

I've met quite a few fellow NERFerS  over this past year and have really enjoyed the exchange of info and stories. I've also been thinking about how I might proceed with my blog in this next year. Maybe a snazzy updated look might be cool? Perhaps a little more personal/profile information (that might be scary), more on modified blasters? A new affiliate or two? I could see that happening. I'm not sure just what I'll do but one thing that I can guarantee, to Para quote Old Blue Eyes, "I'll do it my way." Which brings me to my next point...
After Nerf blog giants like Urban Taggers and Nerf Mods and Reviews closed up shop I started thinking about writing a blog of my own. I'd been a silent  fan of the hobby for a few years but only just started interacting with others in what is referred to as the NIC.  Much to my surprise whenever I brought up the subject of starting my own blog I was highly discouraged, and this came from some pretty well known names in the community! I'm not going to name names (you know who you are) but things were said like "No need for another blog" and I was even called "Stalker" by a blogger in a chat room because I knew who he was. Go figure? That was when I knew for sure I was going to start a Nerf blog and ever since then it's been a real blast!
I guess the point I'm trying to make (yes I know I can be very trying) is don't be discouraged by others. If you have something to say, say it. If you want to write a blog, write it.  Keep in mind that you will have to put a little time and effort into it. The great bloggers put a lot of time and effort into it and that is why they have a million page views (you know who you are too). Above all else remember that no matter how you choose to play with Nerf toys, that is just fine because they are just toys and one way or another we are all just playing with them. Don't pay any attention to anyone who tells you different.
So with all that said I want to wish everyone a Happy & Nerfy New Year!!!
As always...     NERF ON NERFerS!!!
