To Boldly Go Where No Blaster Has Gone Before

The NERF LMTD Starfleet Type 3 and Type 2 Phaser Blasters

NERF LMTD has announced a new special set of Star Trek phasers.  These collectable blasters are designed to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Stars Trek: The Next Generation.

One of the big announcements from the online NERF FEST was Star Trek phaser NERF blasters from NERF LMTD!

NERF LMTD Starfleet Type 2 and Type 3 phasers

Before I go any further I should tell you that besides being a NERFER, I am also a pretty hard-core, OG Trekkie/Trekker, with a fairly large collection of memorabilia and toys...

First Contact movie poster,  phaser, and Borg... part of my Star Trek collection

Now on with the product description :

"The Type 3 motorized dart blaster has light-up effects that simulate the look of being assimilated by the Borg—in homage to the film, Star Trek: First Contact—light-up phaser effects, phaser sounds, authentic First Contact movie sounds, an internal 5-dart clip, and fires 1 dart at a time. "

In  case you didn't see ST-First Contact, or if you are not familiar with the Borg, let me briefly explain. The Borg are reoccurring bad guys that are cybernetic drones, linked in a hive-minaugmentation.

A pair of Borg drones

They  forcibly "assimilate "  individuals and technology by injectng "nanoprobes" and  cybernetic augmentations.

"The Starfleet Type 2 Phaser fires 1 dart and has a pull-back priming handle." That's it. No lights,  no sounds...

NERF LMTD Starfleet Type 2 phaser

So here's the deal- I'd love to have a Star Trek phaser NERF blaster, I'd even be willing to fork out the 120 bucks they're asking,  it's just that the hand phaser (type 2) is a single shot, with no special features and the phaser rifle (type 3) is infected with Borg nanoprobes by design!

Simulated Borg nanoprobe infection and nauduals... never a good thing.

I'd much rather have a "non- infected" blaster that was a little more "movie accurate" in appearance.  I already have a Type 2 phaser that looks pretty good and has light and  sound effects. I also have to say that I don't remember a phaser really being assimilated in the movie?

My Playmates Star Trek: The Generation  hand phaser.

I wonder if other Star Trek fans agree with me or if this NERF LMTD blaster will sell out like most of their products do?  I have to admit that despite it not being exactly what I'd like,  and despite the hefty price tag, I  could still find a spot in my collection for this set of limited edition blasters.

Now that you know that I am a big Star Trek nerd, as well as a NERFER,  I guess the only thing left to say is "Live long and prosper, and...
