Christmas 2015

MERRY CHRISTMAS !

Well here it is again Christmas. Like a lot of you I've been busy this time of year. I've been doing some work on restoring the blog and I've become involved with a couple of Google Nerf communities as well. I have plans for a new special mod after the holidays so watch for that. Maybe a new look for the new year too.
How ever you celebrate the holidays may joy and fellowship be in your heart, may foam be flying through the air,

How Should I Know What Happened?

OH WHAT THE...

So I posted this image on a Google+ Nerf community last night, perhaps some of you saw it?

Now today all the pictures appear to be gone from my blog NERFARIUM. I tried to restore the images and figure  out what happened  but it seems things were deleted... I just don't know how that could be?  Well I did put a little bit back but for now most of the images from this blog are down. I'm sure I'll be able to at least partially restore a lot of the original images.  In the time being the blog shall continue NERFING ON! Send me a comment or get in contact if you think you know what happened and you can help.

re-Meet My Elite

                                                    -or-

                                                             Meet my Elite II

So it seems that a post on my little blaster blog from about 20 months ago is still getting a lot of views. The post is titled Meet my Elite... it is basically just a few images of my Elite arsenal (at that time) and a short summary of the collection.

Elite Arsenal- April 2014

Since then my collection has grown a bit and I thought I might just post an update. So now it's show off time again complete with new pics.  So go ahead and click on "Read more" to see those images and of course...  read more.

A Rhino of a Different Color.

The  elusive  EXCLUSIVE   Blue RHINOFIRE !

Blue RHINOFIRE- A Costco exclusive.

Ah, the Nerf N-Strike Elite RHINOFIRE. It was lust  at first sight for me back in July of 2014.  I knew I wanted one but I wasn't willing to shell  out $100 or even $80 to $90, but last May  (click for May post)  I found one for a more reasonable price and got it. There were no surprises with it, I was not disappointed, it was exactly what I was expecting it to be.  If I had one complaint about the RHINOFIRE it would be that instead of molding it in traditional Elite Blue they decided to go with white. Well now those goofy bastards over at NERF have produced a blue version exclusively for Costco and Costco UK. They should have made the blaster blue in the first place, and if you want this one you have to be a member of Costco (or have a friend who is). The good news is they only want $87.99 (USD) and it comes as a bonus pack with 4 drums and 100 elite darts. I think it's too bad NERF didn't release this version last year. I probably would have been willing to pay the original 100 dollar price tag and I think that holiday sales of the product would have been a little higher for Hasbro as well. If you want to check out the web site here's a link..... click for Costco- RhinoFire site

NERF CROSSBOLT -

NOT QUITE WHAT I EXPECTED

Destiny has kept us apart, but last night I was finally brought together with a long anticipated NERF N-STRIKE ELITE CROSSBOLT. As fate would have it the price was better too :)

RETURN of the NERF of the LIVING DEAD

R.I.P. to old friends

Greetings NERFerS. My apologies for the lack of attention lately. Since my last post the fall releases finally started filling in the store shelves locally, so it's about time for a new blaster! That's exciting!
Getting back to the blog scene also had a few surprises... Despite my lack of anything new for you, you have been sticking with me and I really appreciate it! NERF ON NERFerS!!! I also see that TACTICAL TAG has closed up shop  and NERF MODS & REVIEW (although done posting since 2014) is just gone now. These were 2 of my favorite blogs. I thought this was sudden and the removal of NM&R... a little odd? I'm very sorry to see them go.
It's been a while since I added any blasters to the Armory. I had been thinking that the CROSSBOLT was going to be the next addition, I even had one in hand but while they had dozens of  CROSSBOLTs There were only 2 of these... I first wrote about it last January (the same day as every other NERF blog Ha ha!) and again in June... and it is the peak of zombie season after all... so I thought I have got to get a DOOMINATOR.
With a sealed box only the darts can be seen,

No more speculating about this one -  I picked it up at an out-of-the-way Walmart for $28.88, not bad. As you can see in the picture it comes with a blaster, instruction sheet, 24 green Zombie Strike darts and requires a minimal amount of final assembly.

inside  you will find all this.

You will need to attach 2 of the drums by sliding them in to place and you also need to screw the front handle on. The pump grip will fit in the bottom or either side.
3 position priming handle.

No tools are needed for assembly and this should only take a minute or so and there is a handy instruct sheet .

Drums "clicks" in to place.

Handle "screws"  in to hole.

My new fully assembled and loaded DOOMINATOR ready for ghoulish actions!

Now it's time to face the undead!

I really like this one. I kind of thought I would. The DOOMINATOR is an excellent example of  pure NERF madness at it's most fun. It's about 21.75 in.(55 cm) long, hefty and bulky. I think the overall design is cool with one major exception. I would say everyone would agree that the shoulder stock is way to short and thus the worst feature.
size comparison between DOOMINATOR, SLINGFIRE, and severed human hand

The DOOMINATOR packs 24 darts in to four 6 rnd. drums. The drums are advanced with the orange lever below the trigger guard. The blaster is primed and the top/in-line drum is rotated with the front grip handle. The DOOMINATOR also has  NERF's trademark SLAMFIRE feature and getting all 24 darts down range a respectable 45 to 50 feet (13-15 m) doesn't take long. I went ahead and broke out a 30 pack of special Z-strike darts I had been saving for a special occasion.
I actually have 2 extra packs !

In  just a few hours the streets will be crawling with zombies, ghouls, Disney Princesses and all sorts of other un-dead! Fortunately I have my DOOMINATOR to defend myself  from them all. I expect it will preform well.

MODULU$ EC$-10 BUCK$ MORE!

Toys R Us $ale ends...

Do you know why this guy is smiling? Because he got a Modulus at Toys R Us for $39.99 before they jacked the price back up to $49.99. Saturday I told you the price had been dropped by 10 dollars but that didn't last long and we are back to 50 bucks. Also keep in mind you are also going to need about $2.50 worth of batteries to power it.
Now let's throw in the 4 upgrade kits at $15 a piece for another $60 total and now we are looking at a grand total of about $112.50 + tax (USD) for the complete Modulus system This seems to be the standard retail price, I'm picking on TrU just because they raised my hopes and then dashed them.
I also want to repeat 2 more things from the add, taken out of context, just because I am displeased.
TrU- " Boys can build their own blaster for almost any battle or mission!"   -Sexist?
Hasbro- "Many of our products, are protected. Appropriate legal action will be taken against infringers of these rights."    -Sue happy/need to lighten up?
Wal-mart also displeased me tonight so I walked out of there without the CROSSBOLT I was going to buy, but that's another story... Just take a deep breath and...

MODULUS -PRICES DROPPING ALREADY.

Just as the new N-Strike MODULUS ECS-10 is starting to hit store shelves for an average price of  about $50 (USD), it is already becoming available at a reduced price! If you look at the Toys R Us website  you will see it listed right now for $39.99, a savings of ten bucks! On Amazon the MODULUS can be found for as little as $29.99 (Amazon link). Wal-mart and Target are both still holding out for $50 but I'm sure it won't be long before we see those prices drop as well.
It seems that somebody has realized that a $49.9-something price tag just wasn't going to cut it for a re-shelled STRYFE, especially when you are trying to sell a bunch of accessories to go with it. I'm sure a lot of people (myself included) are going to find this blaster a bit more appealing now that it is more reasonably priced.
If you are one of those who already forked out the big money for one... at least you got one first. If you have been living somewhere under a foam rock... you can read more details about the thing here N-STRKIE MODULUS ECS-10.   Maybe we will all be able to afford to "Modulate"  after all?

STAR-LORD'S QUAD BLASTER

Nerf Makes A Nice Replica.

For any fan of both Nerf and GOTG it's a must have. Originally released last year... I've had my eye on this one for a while and as good things come to those who wait, it went on sale. So now I have a STAR-LORD QUAD BLASTER.

Peter Quill ,you might know him by his other name, STAR-LORD

Yes the officially licensed  Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy-
Nerf STAR-LORD Quad Blaster!  Here are pics of it boxed which shows it includes 4 black foam elite darts, has firing instructions, and then there's the upper right of the box...

First here are some more pics of it out of the box.  You can see it looks good overall despite being too orange. A paint job would make it costume/prop ready.    The smaller/lower trigger retracts the spring loaded barrel covers. Four shots can be fired either 1 or 2 at a time , inner barrels first via smart ARs, Pretty cool. I guess you'd need 2 to do STAR-LORD properly and now they can be found for less than the original $20 average price.

Now about the upper right of the box...it says "Fires up to 25 Feet!" Unfortunately that is very accurate because each set of barrels is powered basically by JOLT internals. I won't go in to further internal details but this blaster is no power house. If you like gimmicky, themed blasters (I
love 'em) this is one of the better ones I've seen so far. Despite the range the looks and function are great!

STAR-LORD QUAD BLASTER
Nice reproduction-yes, TactiCOOL-yes, FUNctional-yes

Cosplayers, conventioneers, and even Groot  also like this blaster because of it's size, detail, and ease to mod with just paint.  Whether you mod it or not it is Star-Lord's blaster and it's cool. I recommend try picking one up  for $15  or less- new.

DOUBLEDOWN RE-COLOR

Last March I did a spot on the Nerf DOUBLEDOWN. Along with pointing out faults I mentioned some positive qualities about this blaster and how I personally liked the overall sleek design and looks of it. I also asked what your thoughts about it were.

My DOUBLEDOWN fresh out of the box...

Due to my displeasure with the original color palate and the overwhelming amount of comments I received about this blaster...  (o_o)    there seemed to be no choice other than to paint the thing and write a second post about this out of step N-Strike blaster.

NERF DOOM IMPENDING

Doom- a noun most commonly referring to very bad events or situations that can not be avoided. Death or ruin.  Doom implies an inevitable and usually adverse outcome. Judgment. I think you all get the idea. It is a word that has often appeared in our comics, sci-fi, and video games as well and now it seems we have it in our Nerf too.
Sure I'm talking about the Zombie-Strike DOOMINATOR

ToysRus/DOOMINATOR pre-order I'm a fan of the Z-S series (for the most part) so I've been looking forward to this monster and I'm glad to see it's finally coming out. I'm definitely going to get one. Priced at $40 I might wait for the sale price?

BUT THAT IS NOT ALL IT'S 2169...

The DOOMLANDS 2169 series... We recently got a sneak-peek  at the VAGABOND and then the LAWBRINGER and now it's official.  The year is 2169 and at least one asteroid has since hit the Earth, the LAWBRINGER box illustrates the north-eastern U.S. taking a massive direct impact so  things are pretty messed up, I think Mel Gibson and Tina Turner might be around...? and we got new blasters.

"Hey Mel! What Tina?
They could call one the
Mega Master Blaster.
Ha  ha ha!"
DOOMLANDS 2169 LAWBRINGER & VAGABOND
They both look good enough but I might have rather seen them as additions to either the Elite or Zombie-Strike series and not yet another new series with a whole new theme and a color scheme that sort of matches a couple of the Z-S blasters anyway.
Will the  DL2169 series give us some good basters or is it   doomed?

MODULUS- TrU is taking pre-orders for 8-1 ship date.   (TrU link)

Doomed ...

is the feeling I'm getting about the new MODULUS ECS-10. A re-shelled STRYFE  for $50 with 4 up-grade kits- accessories kits for $15 each. NERFerS like me wanted  accessories but I don't think this is what we were expecting or what we wanted.

From me they might get $15 just for the remake of the red dot sight just because I wish I had an original, but you know...$$$

MODULUS  Stealth OPS Kit with red dot sight
That's about the only interest I have in this blaster at all and I know other Nerfers who have no interest at all. I guess we will see what happens with this series? Maybe they will come out with some better core blaster or some must have accessory like a decent missile launcher?
 Perhaps the MODULUS is doomed?
MODULUS ECS-10

So prepare yourself for the coming of Doom from NERF and until then...

NERF ON NERFerS!!!

note* Dr. DOOM is in no way associated with NERF or the impending NERF DOOM. No blaster deal, nothin'.

"THE STINGER" ELITE RAYVEN CS-12

I've always wanted one of these...

The bull- pup designed, flywheel driven RAYVEN might have been my favorite of the original N-STRIKE series except for that unique sickly pale green color that matched nothing else. But then in 2013 there was the quietly re-released exclusively available N-Strike Elite RAYVEN CS-12 STINGER version.

NEW NERF BLASTERS SPOTTED & LEAKED.

That's right I said it, "Spotted and Leaked"... worse than a baby's diaper...

So did everybody see these new pics and all the "what we got so far" stuff about the ROTOFURY,  VAGABOND and LAWBRINGER, even a new Rebelle? Finally a little excitement! Let's start off with the MEGA ROTOFURY (right after the jump).

May Day, May Day...Final Post of May

NERF ON EARTH , for  the month...

I've been trying to get a CROSSBOLT since I first heard of it but still haven't been able to find one.
CROSSBOLT
Besides that there hasn't been much happening that has interested me. The stores seem to have stocked up on Super Soakers that I don't care about and take up NERF shelf space, and there have been no bargains to be found.

Monitoring global Nerf activity seems to indicate the Zombie Strike DOOMINATOR

and the  N-STRIKE MODULUS ECS-10  ........................................

have hit the market in England (or are just about to)? This according to Smythstoys.com ( DOOMINATOR LINK -  MODULUS LINK )The prices seem to convert to US dollars as follows:$92.18 for the MODULUS and $61.45 for the DOOMINATOR. Word is the US will start seeing them mid to late summer. My guess is they won't be that expensive based on the fact that the same site wants $69.13 US for a DEMOLISER, which is twice as much as they cost at Walmart, Target, or even TrU. Based on all that... I bet we are looking at about $40 for the Modulus and $30 for the Doominator when they hit shelves in the US.

This next bit is dedicated to that Awesome, Wobbly, Aussie Nerfer  Rob over at S.B.N.C.  He was all over this!... So I stole.. hmm, hmm, ... borrowed his pics...
There have been a couple of new additions to the SONIC ICE Series too.

The SONIC ICE MEGA MAGNUS
Sonic Ice Mega Magnus
and the SONIC ICE MEGA THUNDERBOW
Sonic Ice ThunderBow
Both have joined bringing the total number of Sonic Ice blasters to 8. I don't have any US-TRU prices for the new blasters but the last time I checked you could pick up the complete Sonic Ice Series from TrU for about $180. (read more about that- SONIC ICE POST LINK)  I am predicting that the THUNDERBOW and MAGNUS will eventually show up at TrU (USA) for $32 and $13 bringing the grand total of a complete-to -date SONIC ICE arsenal to approximately $225 plus tax (US Dollars). Maybe this would be a good investment??? I will probably pass, although I am considering obtaining a Sonic Ice CENTERION, which would be my first MEGA series blaster!

They're on sale right now, I might get one?!?!
Pretty, don't ya' think?

That's really about all I have for you right now NERFerS. I do wish it was a little more exciting, but maybe next time..? So until then,

Oh SNAPFIRE!

I've heard and read all the negativity about the SNAFIRE along with its 2015 released  N-STRIKE  brethren the SHARPSHOT and the DOUBLEDOWN. How they are basically restyled in-line  JOLTs and perform as such.  I got hold of a DOUBLEDOWN and I was pleased with it just the same (Read more about that... ), so when I found this SNAPFIRE at the same store for $5  I got it and guess what... I like this one too!

NERF N-STRIKE ELITE XD RHINOFIRE

At long last I got me one!

Last July I published the first of a few posts about the "Ultimate Holiday Blaster"- the RHINO FIRE, I think a lot of people did. Since then I'm sure you have seen it, come to know all about it, or maybe you even have one. If you read any of my other RF posts you know I wanted one from the very beginning despite the hefty price tag and now...finally, here it is, RHINO INCENDIUM MEUM -

VOODOO TACO CANNON UPDATE!

It has only been a matter of hours since I last posted about the Voodoo Taco Cannon out of Omaha. Since then the story has been picking up steam and a new article published by The Huffington Post has come to my attention that features more details such as the price...$1500. Also mentioned is a comment about range..." can be shot all the way across a street and into the upper reaches of the soon-to-be-completed stadium." Most importantly is this new full image of the Taco Cannon itself.

and here we  have another familiar air cannon  for comparison...

VOODOO TACO CANNON

I just like the sound of that!

A local restaurant in Omaha Nebraska called Voodoo Taco announced Wednesday that they have just partnered up with The University of Nebraska-Omaha and the UNO athletic department.
The school is scheduled to open a new arena near Aksarben just before the start of UNO's next hockey season. The gang at Voodoo Taco will apparently be there too with their new Taco Cannon.
Details are vague at this point, but we know the thing will be air-powered, fire tacos, and we have this one image from twitter Voodoo Taco Twitter with this statement, "Someone will take a taco to the face."
The Voodoo Taco Cannon looks sweet and fires ammo you can eat!

There are no specs for this thing either but I'm sure it must get decent range and have a good ROF to launch tacos into a crowd. I'm sure they could fire some sort of foam projectile out of it too if they wanted to.
Perhaps UNO Chancellor John E. Christensen said it best when he was quoted as saying ""This is tomorrow, this is the future of athletics at UNO."
Is this the future of Nerf?   No, but it could be :)            Nerf on Taco Guys!

A year later and I picked up a SLINGSTRIKE.

Greetings NERFerS. Here we are already finished with half of April. It has been busy but two things I wanted to tell you about were the fact that Nerfarium marked its first year anniversary on April 2nd with over 2300 page views (now almost 2500)! Thanks, it's been a lot of fun so keep coming back, remember comments and contributions are always welcome and appreciated... and NERF ON! I also wanted to show you this  SLINGSTRIKE I picked up  for $4.99 in an after Easter clearance bin at the grocery store.

My SLINGSTRIKE unboxed.

The SLINGSTRIKE is a N-Strike series but not Elite, despite the coloring and the darts that come with it. It comes packaged completely sealed in a cardboard box. Inside you will find a disassembled blaster, 2 elite darts, and an instruction sheet. After assembling the 2 sections of blaster together (no tools required) and connecting the loose string end you have a trigger less, single shot dart blaster that looks a little like a sling shot.

NERF N-STRIKE SLINGSTRIKE

To fire you simply load a dart in to the blaster on to the dart post, point to aim, then pull back and release the string with the orange knob. The string will not pull back with out a dart loaded due to a dart sensor/locking mechanism. I found that a loaded dart would tend to fall out if  pointed at the ground.
Top, side, and front views.

Back side of grip.
The backside of the grip is uncomfortable with an open honeycomb type design that's hard on the hand especially the thumb. There is also storage for 2 darts, 1 on each side of the blaster .
When you fire the SLINGSTRIKE you may be surprised by the loud "Snap" sound as the plastic knob strikes the plastic back of the blaster.  Modifications could remedy both issues.
That orange hunk of plastic sounds like it'll crack the blaster wide open!

Now let me say a few words about performance. Surprisingly powerful and accurate! I was getting average flat ranges of over 50' (15m). I only fired indoors so I don't have a max range. The dart seems to fire at a noticeably higher velocity than most blasters although I didn't use any sort of chronograph. I found the fast flying dart, if nice and straight, is deadly accurate up to around 35 feet.

My SLINGSTRIKE

The SLINGSHOT also uses the Elite suction darts well, making it that much more fun. Although I wouldn't call this one a primary battle blaster, as far as range, accuracy, and even rate of fire... you could do a lot worse. For me, the marked down price made it that much better. I suggest you pick this one up especially if you can find it for a decent price.

Thanks again for all those page views too, don't forget to tell your friends. Let's see what happens this year?
