D Is For DELTA

 My DELTA TROOPER Review

It's been a while since I've added a new blaster to my collection.  The one that I just got isn't exactly a "new" blaster...

...in fact, it's  been discontinued. It is an Elite blaster that I never got back in the day, and I'm pleased to add it to my collection.

The DELTA TROOPER was released in the fall of 2018. It was priced at about 30 bucks. For your 30 dollars you got the blaster with a detachable shoulder stock and a detachable barrel extension, a 12 dart clip, 12 darts, and instructions. No sights or any other accessories are included.

For no reason imparticular, I never picked up a DELTA TROOPER. Perhaps it was because there are so many other blasters (over 40) in the Elite series? These days the DELTA TROOPER cannot be found on store shelves. New, inbox TROOPERs can be found online for $45-$50. My DELTA TROOPER is a very nice, slightly used model that I found for just under 20 dollars.

Operation of the DELTA TROOPER is basically the same as other top-slide primed blasters such as the RETALIATOR.

You might even call the DELTA TROOPER the successor of the RETALIATOR and/or the ALPHA TROOPER. Like the Elite ALPHA TROOPER,  the DELTA TROOPER features Slam-fire capability, which the RETALIATOR does not. However the pump-action priming of the ALPHA TROOPER is probably preferred by most NERFERS compared to the slide-action,especially with Slam-fire.

The DELTA TROOPER also features a slide release button on the left side of the blaster, above the trigger, that allows the slide to be pulled back after the blaster has been primed.

This allows access to the jam door to clear any problem darts.

Other features of the DELTA TROOPER include sling attachment points located at the front of the barrel, the bottom of the handle, and two on the shoulder stock. There is also one tactical rail that runs along the top of the barrel. The shell has a molded "camo pattern" and orange highlights replace the white of earlier model Elite blasters. This "new" Elite look can been seen on other blasters like the INFONIS,  TRILOGY,  and SCOUT MKII. While it has its own distinct look, the DELTA TROOPER fits in with the rest of the series pretty well...
The DELTA TROOPER performs as well as any Elite springer, but the relatively high price compared with similar blasters is why I think I originally passed on it. A couple more small criticisms I have are that the barrel extension doesn't fit snugly and thus is wobbly. The handle grip also has a little wiggle. Also,  because of the "new" Elite motif, the shoulder stock and barrel extension don't really quite match with the earlier blasters in the series like the RETALIATOR or SPECTRE.

That being said,  the barrel extension looks great on the INFONIS. No surprise since they both were released in the same year.

Like a lot of blasters,  I might have done a few things differently. Although this one seems like maybe it was rushed, a
ll in all I'm happy enough with the DELTA TROOPER.
I have something on its way... so next time you can expect the first new blaster I've bought in a long time! Until then...
