TRILOGY DS-15 and Upgrade Kit Review
If you read my sales and wish list post Holidays, sales, wishlist then you know that the TRILOGY DS-15 has been on my wish list ever since it was released. Well I got one now, plus an upgrade kit. So is it as good as I was hoping and is it worth 35 dollars?
I previewed the NERF Elite TRILOGY DS-15 back in May of 2019 TRILOGY PRE-ORDER . Now that I actually own one I can go into more specific details. The TRILOGY DS-15 comes packaged with the blaster, 5 shells, 15 darts, and instruction sheet.
It seems the name of the blaster is derived from the fact that it fires 3 darts simultaneously, hence TRILOGY, and perhaps DS-15 refers to Dart Shell and the fact that you get 15 total darts with the blaster.
The TRILOGY loads 1 shell at a time and can store 5 shells in the stock. The blaster is loaded by sliding the pump grip back, opening the loading door in the top of the blaster. A shell is placed in and the pump grip is pushed forward to closing the loading door.
After pulling the trigger and firing... reload by repeating the process. As you pull back the pump grip to open the loading door, the ejection door on the side of the blaster slides open and the empty shell is ejected before the door springs shut.
The shells fall into place easily however they must seat properly or the loading door won't close. The pump action is smooth and I find the overall construction and mechanics of the TRILOGY to be top notch.
Firing the TRILOGY is a lot of fun. When you pull the trigger you feel a little "kick" thanks to the large plunger.
All three darts fire at once at about 70 fps which is respectable but overall range is short compared to other Elite springers. Like an actual shotgun this blaster is best used at short range, on large or multiple targets close together. The TRILOGY features 2 sling attachment points, both on the top of the blaster.
It also has a short tactical rail ahead of the front attachment point. This tactical rail is particularly useful for the upgrade kit.
The upgrade kit consists of 3 shells, 9 darts, and an attachment that holds the shells and slides on the tactical rail.
It's a little awkward to have on the blaster, and I just rather carry the extra shells in a pocket or pouch. At 10 bucks it was a little bit pricey and I would rather just buy extra shells without the attachment. I'm sure someone will make aftermarket shells soon.
Overall I like the TRILOGY. I like the design, the size, and the function. Although the TRILOGY doesn't make a good primary because of the relatively slow rate of fire. With a little practice you can still only get a shot off every 3 or 4 seconds. Still it's an awesome specialty gun (we play shield buster rules often).
The $35 MSRP is about standard and I guess 10 more bucks for the upgrade kit is about right... Currently you can get the TRILOGY DS-15 for $24.88 from Walmart online.
I recommend picking it up at the store to avoid delivery fees. If you are on the fence about this one now might be the time to get it.
